On Monday, the Malaysian national women’s basketball team travelled to Taiwan for a training stint in preparation for the Cambodia Southeast Asian Games in May 2023. This trip is fully sponsored by the Vice President of MABA Dato Lee Cheng Chuan
Tracy York, the team’s new head coach, will get a chance to further integrate the group during this training stint.
Notable additions to the coaching staff this time around include coach Tan Ee Shya, head coach of the Selangor women’s team, and coach Adrian Wong, former assistant coach with the KL Dragons.
14 players in total, including Yap Fook Yee, Pang Hui Pin, Chong Yin Yin, Magdalene Low Phey Chyl, Rajintiran Kalamaithi, Foo Suet Ying, Hon Ai Wen, Toh Ke Hui, Tan Sin Jie, Saw Wei Yin, Carmen Chan, Tai Chia Qian, Chia Mun Yi, and Lee Phei Ling, were brought to Taiwan by the coaching staff.
On this trip to Taiwan, the team will compete in nine friendly games. The rivals include Jinou Girls High School, Pumen High School, Shih Hsin University, Nanhu High School, National Taiwan Normal University, Taiyuan (WSBL team) and University of Taipei.
“Our girls are off to Taiwanfor a training stint and some friendly games to get the team ready for the conditions that they will face in the Southeast Asian Games.” said team manager Frank Ch’ng. “It will be a good preparation for us to play a total of 9 games in Taipei against teams of varying skill levels, so our new coach’s emphasis on teamwork and set plays will be particularly beneficial.”
“In addition to this, we have brought 14 players, including both senior and junior players. This will be yet another chance for the junior players to demonstrate their mettle and determine how well they mesh with the senior players.”
“Since Taiwan is consistently ranked among the best teams in Asia, it will be a wonderful opportunity for our players and local coaches to pick up new skills from Chinese Taipei and obtain a variety of experiences from competing with other teams.” added Frank.
马来西亚国家女子篮球队在周一前往台灣进行移地训练，继续为明年5月份进行的柬埔寨东运会练兵。本会副会长拿督刘晋铨赞助这趟备战的经费。
这次去台灣移地训练，将让新帅特蕾西约克有机会让球队进一步磨合。值得一提，教练组这次也迎来了两位新成员，分别是雪兰莪女队主教练陈玉霞以及前吉隆坡猛龙助教黄伟杰。
至于球员方面，教练组总共带了14名球员前往台灣练兵，其中包括了叶佛仪、彭慧萍、张盈盈、刘佩琪、卡莱玛蒂、胡雪莹、韩爱雯、卓可慧、陈心洁、苏苇颖、陈佳汶、戴嘉倩、谢敏意、李佩莹。
大马女篮在这次台灣之旅将会进行9场比赛，对手包括了金瓯女中、普门高中、世新大学、南湖高中、国立台湾师范大学、台元（WSBL球队）以及台北市立大学等等。
“我们将前往台灣进行训练和一些友谊赛，继续为东运动做好准备。 ”领队庄荣兴表示。 “我们将在台北与不同技术水平的球队进行总共9场比赛，对我们来说是一个很好的准备，尤其是对球队的团队配合及战术执行将大有助益。 ”
“除此之外，我们带来了14名球员，包括资深和年轻球员。这将是年轻球员展示她们的勇气并确定他们与资深球员的配合程度的又一次机会。“
“由于台灣队一直位居亚洲最佳球队之列，这将是我们球员和本土教练从台灣队学习新技能，并从与其他球队竞争中获得各种经验的绝好机会。”庄荣兴补充道。
