Dato’ Yeoh Choo Hock Nominated for FIBA Basketball Hall of Fame by MABA President

Dato’ Seri Lee Tian Hock, President of the Malaysia Basketball Association (MABA), has officially submitted a formal application to FIBA, strongly recommending that Malaysia’s legendary basketball figure, Dato’ Yeoh Choo Hock, be inducted into the FIBA Basketball Hall of Fame.

At 81 years old, Dato’ Yeoh boasts over 30 years of experience in basketball administration. He served as MABA Secretary General for 17 years (1990-2007), MABA Vice President for 2 years (2008-2009), and held the role of Secretary General of the Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) from 1994 to 2006. In addition, he was the Secretary General of FIBA Asia from 1998 to 2012 and has been honored with the title of Secretary General Emeritus of FIBA Asia since 2012. Throughout his career, he has held several key international positions, including FIBA Vice-President (2003-2006).

Dato’ Yeoh’s outstanding achievements include leading Malaysia’s national basketball team to a gold medal at the 1989 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games and promoting international basketball by organizing major tournaments such as the Women’s Basketball World Championship in Malaysia. His contribution to the sport extends globally, having served as a FIBA Commissioner at four Olympic Games and several FIBA World Championships. His efforts were also recognized with numerous awards, including the 1997 Best CEO Award by the USA Basketball Association and the 2001 John Wooden Lifetime Service Award.

Dato’ Seri Lee emphasized that Dato’ Yeoh’s lifelong dedication to the development of basketball in Malaysia and Asia is unparalleled. He is not only a symbol of Malaysian basketball but also a visionary leader who has made significant contributions to international basketball. Induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame would be the highest recognition of Dato’ Yeoh’s selfless dedication and a fitting tribute to his remarkable legacy.

With his immense accomplishments in basketball, Dato’ Seri Lee believes that Dato’ Yeoh is fully deserving of a place in the FIBA Basketball Hall of Fame, where he will continue to inspire future generations to engage with and develop the sport.

拿督杨自福获大马篮总总会长推荐进入国际篮联篮球名人堂

大马篮总总会长拿督斯里李典和日前拜访国际篮联,并趁此机会向国际篮联提呈正式申请函,强力推荐马来西亚篮球界的传奇人物——拿督杨自福(Dato’ Yeoh Choo Hock)进入FIBA篮球名人堂。

现年81岁的拿督杨自福,拥有超过30年的篮球管理经验,曾担任大马篮总(MABA)秘书长17年(1990-2007),副会长2年(2008-2009),并担任东南亚篮球协会(SEABA)秘书长(1994-2006)及国际篮联亚洲分会(FIBA Asia)秘书长(1998-2012)。他曾以副会长身份服务国际篮联(2003-2006),并被授予国际篮联亚洲分会荣誉秘书长职衔(2012至今)。作为一位具有卓越贡献的篮球领袖,他的职业生涯涵盖从国家队教练到管理层的各个重要职位。

拿督杨自福不仅为马来西亚篮球带来了诸多荣誉,也通过举办国际赛事和推广“篮球和平运动”在全球范围内提升了篮球的影响力。他曾在四届奥运会中担任国际篮联的技术委员,并获得包括1997年美国篮球协会颁发的最佳CEO奖、2001年美国篮球协会的约翰·伍登终身服务奖等多项殊荣。
