PDRM bounced back with a convincing win, while Johor started their journey with a one-sided win, and Perak cruised to their 2nd win in as many days.
Veteran Chin Zhi Shin came off the bench to score a game-high 28 points, and the PDRM beat Selangor 80-73 on Christmas Day showdown of the men’s Group A match, bouncing back from the heavy loss to defending champion Negeri Sembilan last night. Ten Zhen Jie had 19 points for Selangor, who thrashed ATM 101-21 last night.
In another Group A game, Johor notched up a big win 101-61 against ATM as expected. John Wong Khai Chiek led the team with 26 points and 8 rebounds, point guard Heng Yee Tong added 13 points and season-high 14 assists, Brian Tang Kia Wee had 22 points.
Perak, the 19-time champions, secured back-to-back wins after rallying from a 17-point early deficit to defeat the MABA Selection 73-59 in the men’s Group B match. D-League top scorer and regular season MVP Lai Kok Weng led the way with a game-high 31 points. On the other hand, Penang pulled off an easy win against Sabah, 99-71, for their first win of the tournament.
Early in the day, the defending champion Negeri Sembilan 1 get off to a great start with a 92-32 thrashing of their junior Negeri Sembilan 2. National Team captain Yap Fook Yee scored 20 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.
